Book Project Proposal
My project proposal is called “Communal Spaces”. This will be a study of places like libraries, parks, or even the dining room table in terms of design and social repercussions. I plan to take all the photos myself, but with the virus projections I might have to use other sources. As I was researching various artist books for the project, I came across several on printed matter that inspired me. Melek Zertal’s Sleepless and Cells Get Tan, Too by Jo-Jo-Sherrow had a narrative element that I really enjoyed. I think this is a really good mechanism to capture the viewer’s attention, and something that can be implemented with my own book. Unlike with their books, I don't want to create a direct narrative, instead more of a commentary on how we use spaces. Judith Rubenstein’s Food, Money, Shelter; NYC Resources also was powerful to me. While only one page is available for viewing, it struck me as a successful means to celebrate and educate people about “resources”in NYC. In the...
